It is rare for people living in Seattle to make the “trek” across the bridge to the eastside of town, especially in order to eat. What could you possibly find in Kirkland, of all places, that you couldn’t find in Seattle. Well, LUCIA is unlike any restaurant I have been to in Kirkland, almost feeling as if it doesn’t belong there but making the drive to the eastside for authentic Italian food worth it.
As soon as you enter the restaurant, many questions came to my head. How is this restaurant not in a hip neighborhood in Seattle, but at a Kirkland strip mall? Why do those old Kirkland fogies get such a trendy eatery and we don’t? The atmosphere is definitely trendy and contemporary, but inviting especially to a younger and/or more sophisticated crowd. Brushing those questions aside, our group of twenty somethings decided to do the most important thing first, which was to order a bottle of wine.
Getting down to the heart of it, Lucia has an excellent selection of wine and a full bar, what else is important? Oh right, the food. Well the food elicited the following response from a fellow friend: “It made love to my mouth”. What else could be said other than that (the pictures at the end of the post will certainly help as well.) They have a very diverse menu for all types of restaurant goers and good dessert options. I won’t go into details as I want to keep this short, but I will say you won’t be disappointed with the Baked Penne.
Aside from being a great restaurant, I believe Lucia could also be a great late night lounge to hang out in and toss back a couple, or a lot, of drinks. I know it takes something special for us living in Seattle to drive to Kirkland, but Lucia is definitely worth taking the extra time for good food, drinks and fun. My friends and I definitely enjoyed ourselves, and the service was friendly. And for those of you that already live in Kirkland, consider yourself lucky bastards.
